Practicing a regular self care routine can be important for becoming more centered and lowering stress and Anxiety. Why is cultivating some form of mindfulness practice important in our daily lives?
What is mindfulness meditation?
Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation and other training. The term "mindfulness" is a translation of the Pali term sati, and is borrowed from Buddhist traditions.
Much has been learned about the impact of stress on our health and sense of well being. Today life presents many sources of stress and the effects as we get older show in a variety of ways including overeating, heart disease, diabetes and depression/anxiety. Mindfulness practice has shown wonderful benefits in enabling healthier and more flexible responses to stress.
Here are some mindfulness tools that can be helpful for an early morning routine, or before bed to get restful sleep. To get the best effects this is done daily at a minimum. Out of it we learn a way to respond to our daily lived life with more appreciation and zest, and an ability to let go of things. Cultivating mindfulness allows us to experience a clearing of unhelpful clutter and distracting influences. Letting go of what is unhelpful can free us up to be more present fully and perhaps to be more courageous in meeting our life and its many challenges.
